Shrubs or small trees that grow along coastal waters, usually in tropical areas. These plants have been known to provide a buffer against tsunamis and cyclones; however, there has been a noticeable decrease in the number of mangrove forests in studied areas. There have been efforts to revive mangrove forests in areas such as Vietnam, Djibouti, and Brazil, as well as other coastal/island nations prone to cyclones.
